Wanted By Amanda Lance

Considering she’s a girl who calculates everything, Addie Battes knew the statistical probability of being abducted in her lifetime—too bad she never analyzed the odds of falling in love with her captor.

While stopping at a crowded rest area one summer night, seventeen-year-old Addie accidentally catches a truck hijacking in progress. Desperate to rid the crime of its only witness, one of the thieves kidnaps Addie. Now, forced on board a cargo ship in the middle of the ocean, Addie finds herself surrounded by international smugglers who want nothing more than to throw her overboard.

All except the artistic and intriguing Charlie Hays, whose strange protectiveness convinces Addie to trust him, even when common sense tells her otherwise. Yet, despite her doubt, and his unrelenting temper, their relationship develops into something much more.

It honestly pains me to write this review. I've read two of Amanda Lance's books in the past. I read 'The Dark Road' and 'Breakdown'. I absolutely adored those two books. In fact, 'Breakdown' is one of my favourites. So I expected nothing short of wonderful with 'Wanted'. Unfortunately I was sorely mistaken.

I have always been intrigued by Stockholm's Syndrome but I'm aware that it can be a very tricky topic to write about and therefore I rarely read books on the subject. When writing fiction on this topic, one has to be careful not to turn their book into something that reads like fan fiction or an erotica (considering that it was not their original intent).

From the very first chapter, I was shaking my head. This book was awful. She started falling for her captor mere hours after she was abducted. I mean if it were me, I would still be fighting the shock of being freaking kidnapped! I would be thinking of my poor dad who was probably walking around the gas station frantically looking for me rather then how pretty my kidnapper's eyes are. Good grief! I mean there was no build up whatsoever! She just falls in love with him. There was no iota of forbidden love or whatever. No sense of the fact that what she was doing was wrong. Nothing. Nada.

And then okay, she finds herself on a ship on the way to Singapore. Okay. What does she do? She doesn't think about escaping or stealing a phone to call for help. No no. She decides to befriend her captors, cook for them, and spend her days cuddling with her main kidnapper, Charlie. I mean what. Excuse me have you forgotten your poor father, brother, hometown and entire police crew who are all frantically trying to find you?? She is infuriating.

And then what happens? She gets into a fight with Charlie. So in the rain, she crawls to the bottom of the boat and nearly kills herself because she's curled up and pretty much frozen there for ages. When Charlie inevitably saves her, instead of thinking about how she could have died or how much danger she was in, she thinks about how her fight with Charlie upset her and how much she loves him. UGH!

I'm sorry but this book was so crap. I felt like I was reading some tween girl's fan fiction. If I wanted to read horribly developed fan fiction, I would have gone to Wattpad. Such a disappointment from an author that I truly like.

The Dark Road By Amanda Lance

Not every friendship is as harmless as it seems.

Loner James McKay wants nothing to do with Hadley Grayson. After all, the last thing a drug dealer needs is the pretty, new girl trying to be friends. Walking distractions like her lead to trouble, the kind that can get you 10 to 15 behind bars.

Likewise, fencing champion Hadley Grayson isn’t thrilled about her family uprooting her during her senior year of high school. At least there’s James McKay, the quiet, mad scientist who is as adorable as he is mysterious.

Though McKay may reject the idea of friendship, he gets one whether he wants it or not. But once the lies are told and the rumors spread, the dangers of meth making and dealing are impossible to avoid. Between secrets and overdosing classmates, McKay and Hadley will learn that loneliness can be a two-way street, changing both of their lives forever. -Goodreads

When I was offered the chance to review this book, I immediately dropped everything to start reading it simply because it is an Amanda Lance book and after having read and loved Breakdown, I just had to read more from her. I'd also read a lot of the reviews about this book and nearly everyone said that they cried and that they hated the ending. And I love a good book that can make me cry.

However, thanks to all the reviews, I pretty much guessed the ending before I even started reading the book. I mean when people say that they hated the ending and that they cried, it can really mean only one or two thing. But I won't spoil it.

So this book, which switches points of view, follows the life of Hadley Greyson and James McKay. Hadley has just moved to a new town with her twin brother, Simon and her family. She is a good girl with a great family and fantastic grades. James lives with an abusive father and his dog (who is named Dog). James also cooks Meth and Ecstasy. So at first sight, they are polar opposites.

However, one day, McKay strikes the curiosity of Hadley and despite the warnings from her brother, James and Hadley go one to have one hell of a special relationship. That is, until the illegal life James has been leading begins to catch up with him.

I absolutely adored this book. I loved Hadley and James together. I loved how they were so different yet somehow they had the perfect chemistry. This book just made me feel very mushy-gushy inside.

I also loved how detailed Amanda was when it came to describing the drug making process. She obviously did her research with this one and I ended up learning a lot more about making Meth then I ever thought I would in my entire life. I also learnt even more about why I don't want to take drugs ever. I think that was a really good thing that Amanda did. She included the drug element but she did so very responsibly and she didn't glorify the making or taking of it.

The only problem I had with the book was the names. Amanda seemed to have a bit of an issue with naming her characters. Or maybe it was just me. I thought Hadley was a guy for a good part of the first chapter. And Hadley's best (girl) friend from her old home is named Jordan. Okay maybe it's just me.

Anyway, good job Amanda Lance. You deserved my 5 stars!

Breakdown (Crash Into Me #1) By Amanda Lance

Charlotte Ferro is about to jump.

Yet nothing ruins a perfectly good suicide attempt worse than a handsome do-gooder. After William O’Reilly convinces her to take one last ride with him, Charlotte finds herself forgetting about her own problems and enjoying a world of which she never dreamed.

Now addicted to the rush of fast cars and cool criminals, Charlotte finds herself leaning less towards the ledge and more toward the arms of her savior. But with reasons of his own for keeping Charlotte safe from herself, William is reluctant to involve her in his criminal undertakings. Will his career choice keep them apart? Will Charlotte’s painful past? -Goodreads

Can I just say that I absolutely loved this book! It was so sweet and romantic and it made me feel so mushy and gushy on the inside. If I could describe the book with one emoji, it would be the one with the hearts as eyes. Last night I stayed up till like 1.30am without realising it because I desperately wanted to keep reading. In fact I was so sad when it was over because it just made my heart melt.

Okay. I shall get a grip now.

So this book starts with Charlotte attempting to jump off an overpass. She has planned her suicide very well and everything is going perfectly until a stranger drives up and starts talking to her. Realising that she was actually there to commit suicide, the stranger insist upon taking her to her first street race. The adrenaline and the energy she experienced there made her start craving this rush. While chasing this rush she finds herself slowly falling hopelessly in love with this stranger.

The description of this book sounds hopelessly typical. It sounds like it's just a cheesy romance story. In many ways, that is exactly what it is. However the backstory of the characters, their dark pasts and their illegal jobs all come into play to make this an extremely memorable book.

I would certainly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good old romantic story.
